The genesis of NewGenLib has been to develop an ILMS that addresses all the requirements of a library, complies to international standards and make it affordable for implementation. NewGenLib is an open source software available under most widely used and popular free software license GNU GPL.NewGenLib version 1.0 was released in March' 2005 and later versions 2.0 and 2.1 have come up. It was on 9th January 2008 that NewGenLib was declared Open Source and at the time of declaration the running version was 2.1.
