University college donates library software to charity
Sunway University College has given a library software system to HOPE Worldwide Malaysia as part of its commitment to the community.
The university college presented the SyLibs library system software developed by its School of Computer Technology (SCT) students at the Hope Free Clinic and Centre in Jalan Sentul recently.
College undergraduate studies director Lim Tiew Ming handed over the system to Hope programme director Darick Wong Kai Ying.
A short multimedia presentation and a demonstration of the software was also conducted by the ICT R & D Unit members.
The library system was created in 2004 by Joni Nurdin and Budianto Zhuang, both students of SCT, to provide users with the tools and functions necessary for them to process transactions in libraries easily.
With the system, each book's ID code would be automatically generated, preventing duplications.
ICT R & D unit member Chin Seng Choy further enhanced the system in 2005.
The software was introduced to school principals and administrators in 2005 at the closing ceremony of an ICT Workshop at the college and it was officially launched at SMK Subang Utama in 2006 during the School Adoption Cere-mony.
So far, seven school libraries use the SyLibs library system.
